Not feeling up to it or don’t have the time to go shopping? These days, there are plenty of alternatives available, including online clothing stores and even outfit rentals.

I recently tried Outfittery, which is a clothing box service with a personal shopper aimed at both men and women. My husband and I tested it together. In the following lines, I invite you to discover my thoughts on it, as well as my partner's opinion on the selection for men.

Outfittery is a fashion box service that initially catered only to men, but is now available for both men and women. It is no obligation and delivery is free.

Like its competitor Lookiero, this is a personal shopper service. This means that when you sign up, you will be asked to complete a profile questionnaire to determine your style and expectations regarding the box. This tool will enable the personal shopper to select clothing items that are likely to appeal to you.

Upon receiving your items, you have 7 days to decide what to keep and what to return. Returns are free of charge. Once Outfittery receives the returned items, you will be charged for the items you decided to keep!

How does the personal shopper at Outfittery select the clothing?

When you sign up, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire that helps to determine your preferences and what the Outfittery box can offer you.

This questionnaire will ask you to choose outfits that suit you from the suggested photos. You will also have the opportunity to specify if you do not wear certain types of clothing (brand logos, specific patterns and colours, etc.), as well as your favourite brands and your age group.

Next, you will be asked to provide details about your body shape, specifically:

Depending on whether you are a man or a woman, you will also be asked for your trouser, shoe, and dress sizes... and which fit you prefer (straight, slim, skinny, loose...).

Lastly, you can specify for what occasion you are looking for an outfit:

👩 The questionnaire for women varies slightly. You can indicate your body shape (hourglass, triangle, oval, diamond...), as well as your preferences regarding the cuts (fitted, straight, loose).

👉 All of these responses will help the personal shopper to select clothing that is likely to appeal to you and meet your needs, while staying within your budget. If you have a specific request, you will also have the option to mention it before finalising your order. For instance, in my husband’s case, he was able to indicate that he has contact allergies to certain metals.

What happens next with the payment?

Once you've completed your profile, you have the option to:

• paypal.

The payment method you choose will be the default option for billing the clothing you decide to keep after receiving it. If you need to change this payment method later, you'll still be able to do so.

❗ Please note, to ensure that your payment method is reliable, Outfittery will hold R1,800 for twelve hours after it has been validated. The amount will not be deducted, but you need to have this amount available in your bank account.

What clothing sizes does Outfittery offer?

👨 For men, Outfittery offers outfits ranging from size 36 (XS) to 52 (3XL) with shoes from size 39 to 48, catering to various body types.

👩 For women, Outfittery selects clothing from XS to XXL. You will be asked for your trouser width (between 26 and 34), and you can specify the length as well, choosing from 30, 32, or 34 (to avoid any hemming!).

📸 You have the opportunity to send photographs of yourself to your personal shopper so they can take that into account when selecting clothing. This is particularly helpful in finding outfits that complement your skin tone and highlight your eyes.

This tool can be activated from your profile and deactivated whenever you wish. You can also indicate if you want to postpone the delivery of your next box and wait for the following one.

👉 Personally, I have a few curves, and I often struggle to find nice clothes in size 46. The outfits suggested by my personal shopper were truly lovely and fitted me well, highlighting my curves.

The personal shopper service, which selects clothing based on the information in your profile, your specific requests, and feedback from previous boxes, is completely free. The delivery and returns for the clothes you choose not to keep are also at no cost.

You also have the option to contact your personal shopper by phone, and this service is free of charge. You can even request, without any cost, to get a sneak peek of your upcoming box.

Are there any fees for registration?

No, registration is free. However, to verify your payment method, whether it’s PayPal or a credit card payment, you must have at least R1,600 in your bank account. This is because Outfittery will hold this amount for 12 hours to authenticate your payment method.

My verdict on the Outfittery box ⭐⭐⭐

Outfittery launched its women's box in May, and I thought it would be a great opportunity for us to try the experience as a couple, so we could compare. In June, we both ordered our first boxes, indicating our preferences and needs through the profile questionnaire.

I found this one to be very comprehensive and quite accurate: I had high expectations regarding the boxes. They arrived about two weeks later.

The packaging is really of high quality, and the parcel looks like a small suitcase, which makes you eager to open it quickly! The clothes inside are neatly folded and separated into bundles.

On my side, I kept only one item of clothing from this initial selection, as my wardrobe was already quite full and not everything appealed to me. I really appreciated the easy return process! My husband kept several items from his box and was very happy with the overall selection.

We were meant to receive our next box in September, but I got a shipping notice in August. I had to contact Outfittery to cancel this incorrect shipment over the phone, which took me some time. It's a pity that this can't be done through the website.

We received the September selection a few weeks ago and I’m really happy with it, it suits me perfectly! I had mentioned to my personal shopper that I was looking for skirts and dresses for the autumn-winter season and she really listened to me.
