My Thoughts on LOOKFANTASTIC, the Favourite Beauty Box Among Fans

When you love cosmetics like I do, trying out new products is truly a delightful experience. However, I've realised that this can really add up! Initially, I subscribed to the Lookfantastic beauty box to save some money. I've been testing it over the past few months and I'm excited to share my thoughts on it!

How does the Lookfantastic box work?

Lookfantastic offers a fairly classic beauty box: it is delivered to your home monthly, with a subscription of one, three, six months, or a year. The products come from well-known beauty brands, quite popular in the UK, where the LookFantastic concept originated. Among these, you'll find some luxury brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Lacoste...

Each box contains 6 products and an informative magazine (in English!) that explains how to use them. This may include:

• for face care: moisturiser, cleanser, serum, concealer...
• for body care: lotion, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, fragrance...
• for make-up: eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner, mascara...
• for accessories: brush, mirror, makeup remover sponge, ...

👉 The products may be miniature (slightly larger than samples) or in retail format. Their total value is at least $50, allowing for some great savings!

When does my Lookfantastic subscription end?

At the end of each subscription period, regardless of its length (1, 3, 6 months or a year), Lookfantastic automatically renews your subscription. I recommend that as soon as you subscribe, you uncheck the "Automatic Renewal" box in your account to keep control over it. If you're unsure how to do this, the brand also offers the option to contact them directly via message using this form.

For this unboxing, I'm excited to share the June 2022 box, which is vibrant and turned out to be a fantastic surprise for me.

👉 In total, thanks to this box that I paid €17 for with my six-month subscription, I have saved nearly €45 and discovered some fantastic products!

Is there a Lookfantastic gift card? 🎁

Unfortunately, Lookfantastic still doesn't offer this type of product. It's a real shame because a subscription to this box would make a fantastic surprise for your sister, friend, or beauty-loving mum.

However, as there isn't a personalisation questionnaire, you have the option to subscribe someone of your choice by selecting the duration of their subscription, and by replacing your delivery address with theirs.

👉 In this context, the prepaid subscription is quite handy, but I think it's important to deselect the automatic renewal option in your account settings to prevent it from being renewed.

In 2021, the calendar cost 95 AUD, placing it in the higher range for beauty calendars. However, this is justified by the size of the products: they are not samples but rather travel-sized or standard retail formats. Inside, there were products worth over 470 AUD!

It is currently owned by The Hut Group, which manages over 100 international e-commerce sites and generated over $1.6 billion in revenue in 2022. Lookfantastic is therefore not new to the scene: it’s a reputable and financially stable company that you can rely on.

Regarding Brexit, Lookfantastic reassures its customers in its FAQ: there are no price changes and no additional delays to expect, as products are shipped from various warehouses that are not necessarily located in the UK.

Lookfantastic doesn’t have a customer service phone line, but they offer a live chat and a messaging service. They respond to reviews left on Trustpilot to thank those who provide positive feedback and assist customers who have encountered issues.

Finally, Lookfantastic reminds customers in its return policy that you can return a product for a refund within 14 days from the day you receive it. This is a legal requirement under the consumer code (article L121-20-12), but I appreciated that the brand highlights this. As for the subscription boxes, this 14-day period only applies to the first box of the subscription.

My Verdict on the Lookfantastic Box

Before trying out the box, the brand Lookfantastic was a bit unknown to me. In fact, when people talked about beauty boxes, I thought of MyLittleBox, Blissim, or Glossybox... But I was tempted to give this one a go because the prices of the products on the site were really appealing. Plus, there were some items that you couldn't find anywhere else.

I subscribed for six months to try out the box. The price is slightly higher than other subscription boxes, but I realised why after receiving my packages: in each box, there was at least one full-sized product. Additionally, while competitors offer boxes with 5 to 6 products, Lookfantastic guarantees 6. So it’s much more appealing!

I was generally happy with the products received: they are from well-known brands, some of which I use daily (Nuxe, Caudalie), and are suitable for most skin and hair types, even the most sensitive. However, I did wish that it was possible to customise my profile to receive makeup that matches my skin tone, for example.

I also appreciated the packaging of the gift sets and the reliability of the shipping. I was a bit worried since it was a company not based in Australia, but the products are exceptionally well packaged and they arrive quickly.

Finally, make sure to uncheck the automatic renewal option in your account settings if you don’t want your subscription to continue. If you wish to remain subscribed, simply do nothing. 😉
