What is the winter bohemian look?
Often seen as a summer trend, the bohemian style actually works for all seasons. Of course, when it’s cold, you can’t just rely on a light dress and sandals. During those times of the year when the weather behaves unpredictably, you can still embrace a bohemian look by layering your clothing, allowing some layers to peek out, and playing with different fabrics and patterns.
Additionally, the boho trend embraces natural materials: cotton, linen, leather, and also wool, for instance, which has excellent insulating properties, making it perfect for winter.
In summary, dressing bohemian in winter gives you even more opportunities to mix and match your clothes and wear a style that reflects who you are.
Dare to Go Monochrome with Different Textures
Are you a fan of bohemian fashion? If so, you probably know all about prints and patterns! However, in winter, you can also embrace this trend with a monochromatic style by choosing clothing with unique textures or beautiful embroidery.
Don’t hesitate to mix dresses with jackets that you might not normally pair together by playing with contrasts. Materials like velvet or leather, for instance, often help highlight smoother and more vibrant fabrics.
👉 Winter is also the season for cool colors like blue, gray, purple, and green. It’s the perfect time to incorporate these shades into your bohemian wardrobe by mixing and matching gradients!
The cardigan or the chunky knit sweater: the essential bohemian piece for winter
Are you worried about staying warm in a simple long dress? Keep in mind that sweaters and cardigans can add a cozy touch to your bohemian look. To stay trendy and warm, I recommend choosing styles that are long and thick, with chunky knits.
People often think that baggy clothes tend to make us look heavier and widen our shape. This couldn’t be further from the truth! In fact, the opposite happens. With loose-fitting and longer garments, your figure will appear slimmer and taller.
Additionally, when you’re comfortable in your clothing, you’ll come across as a natural and spontaneous person who is self-assured. 😉

Keep Your Legs Warm with Knee-High or Thigh-High Boots
Even if you choose thick tights, leggings aren’t always enough to keep you warm when wearing a dress. To increase the area of your body covered by clothing, you can also opt for boots, or even better, thigh-high boots. These tall shoes will cover a large part of your legs while giving you a very feminine look. They will enhance both a short dress and a long dress!
👉 If you want to elongate and slim your figure, I recommend opting for heeled boots. However, flat soles will also work perfectly if you can’t wear heels or if you need comfortable shoes for everyday use, like at work, for example.
Fringes: The Boho Chic Detail for Winter
As you probably already know, the bohemian style is characterized by many creative and original details. This can include colorful, nature-inspired embroidery or even beads. These little touches of personalization are a way to make your clothes your own and to express, through them, who you are.
Thus, it was the hippies in the 1970s who began to reinvent everyday clothing in this way, as a means to express their individuality and beliefs. The “peace and love” symbol is one of their recurring motifs!
Drawing inspiration from Native American customs and revitalizing them, the hippies also brought fringes back into fashion, which can now be seen in today’s bohemian style. They’ve even made an appearance on the runways this season, as showcased by Prada, Boss, and Christian Dior!
Now is the perfect time to add fringe to your wardrobe to complement a dress or any other bohemian outfit. You can style it in a variety of ways:
- a fringed jacket,
- fringe ankle boots,
- a bag with this kind of detail…
Embrace Accessories to Showcase Your Bohemian Spirit!
Wondering how to accessorize your bohemian dress? If you enjoy this trend, it’s likely that you also love wearing plenty of accessories to personalize your look.
However, I often notice that during winter, it’s less common to wear accessories. Sometimes, this can be for practical reasons: large rings, for example, often get caught in clothing when you put them on… which happens many times a day in winter. Just like with clothing, I recommend that you layer small accessories and opt for pieces that are suitable for the season, such as those I will suggest in the following sections.
The Hat
To look stylish, nothing beats choosing a beautiful hat that will enhance your winter bohemian dress! I recommend sticking with natural colors, ranging from light camel brown to dark brown, and selecting your headwear to match the rest of your outfit.
👉 To stay even warmer, pair your hat with a chunky oversized scarf. 😉
The Small Leather Bag
Super convenient for everyday use, the small leather bag will be your best friend if you’re wearing a long bohemian dress! Indeed, in the winter, it’s often necessary to have a lot of small items on hand, such as lip balm, hand cream, your gloves, your phone, and so on.
If your dress doesn’t have pockets, a small bag will be perfect for keeping all your essentials organized and easily accessible. As mentioned earlier, you can choose one in a boho style, featuring fringes, embroidery, or beads…
