What is the winter bohemian look?
Often regarded as a summer trend, the bohemian style can indeed be adapted for all seasons. Of course, when it's cold, it's not feasible to just wear a light dress and sandals. During the times of year when the weather is unpredictable, you can definitely embrace boho fashion by layering your clothing, occasionally allowing certain layers to show, and playing with the various fabrics and prints.
Furthermore, the boho trend embraces natural materials: cotton, linen, leather, as well as wool, for instance, which has excellent insulating properties, making it perfect for winter.
In summary, dressing in a bohemian style during winter gives you even more opportunities to mix and match your clothing, allowing you to wear an outfit that truly reflects your personality.
Embrace the monochrome look with varied textures
Are you a fan of bohemian fashion? If so, patterns and prints surely hold no secrets for you! However, in winter, this trend can also be embraced with a monochromatic style by opting for garments with unique textures or intricate embroidery.
Feel free to pair dresses with jackets that you might not ordinarily associate with them, by playing with contrasts. Fabrics like velvet or leather often enhance softer and shinier fabrics.
👉 Winter is also the season for cool colours such as blue, grey, purple, and green. It’s the perfect time to incorporate these shades into your bohemian wardrobe by experimenting with gradients!
The oversized cardigan or chunky knit jumper: the essential bohemian piece for winter
Are you worried about feeling cold in a simple long dress? Know that jumpers and cardigans can add a cosy touch to your bohemian look. To stay on trend and keep warm, I recommend choosing styles that are quite long and thick, with chunky knits.
It is often believed that loose clothing tends to make our figure look heavier and our waist appear broader. This is not the case at all! In fact, the opposite is true. With loose-fitting and elongated garments, your silhouette will appear slimmer and taller.
Furthermore, by feeling comfortable in your clothes, you'll give off the impression of someone who is natural and spontaneous, exuding confidence. 😉

Warm Up Your Legs with Knee-High or Over-the-Knee Boots
Even if you opt for thick tights, tights alone may not provide enough warmth when wearing a dress. To increase the amount of your body covered by clothing, you can also consider adding boots, or even better, over-the-knee boots. These high boots will cover a large portion of your legs while giving you a very feminine look. They will enhance both a short dress and a long dress!
👉 If you want to elongate and refine your silhouette, I recommend opting for heeled boots. However, flat soles are also perfectly suitable if you cannot wear heels or if you need comfortable shoes for everyday use, such as for work.
The Fringes: The Boho Chic Detail for Winter
As you may already know, the bohemian style is characterised by numerous creative and original details. This can include embroidered natural and colourful patterns, or even beads. These little touches of personalisation are a way to make your clothing your own and to express, through them, the person you are.
Thus, it was the hippies in the 1970s who began to reinvent everyday clothing in this way, to express their individuality and beliefs. The symbol of "peace and love", for instance, is one of their recurring motifs!
Drawing inspiration from the customs of Native Americans and revitalising them, the hippies have also brought fringes back into fashion, which can now be seen in today’s bohemian style. In fact, they are now making appearances on the catwalks this season, as witnessed at Prada, Boss, and Christian Dior!
Now is the perfect time to embrace fringes in your wardrobe to complement a dress or any other bohemian outfit, teamed with your choice of accessories:
- a fringed jacket,
- fringe ankle boots,
- a bag with this type of detail…
Embrace Accessories to Express Your Bohemian Spirit!
Are you wondering how to accessorise your bohemian dress? If you enjoy this trend, it's highly likely that you also love wearing plenty of accessories to personalise your look.
However, I often notice that in winter, it's less common to wear accessories. Sometimes, this may be for practical reasons: large rings, for example, often get caught in clothing when putting them on... which can happen many times a day in winter. Just like with clothing, I recommend that you mix small accessories together and focus on pieces that are suitable for the season, such as those I will suggest for you to discover in the following lines.
The Hat
To achieve a stylish look, nothing beats selecting a beautiful hat that will enhance your winter bohemian dress! I recommend sticking to natural colours, from light camel brown to dark brown, while choosing your headwear to complement the rest of your outfit.
👉 To keep even warmer, pair your hat with a large oversized knitted scarf. 😉
The Small Leather Bag
Incredibly practical for everyday use, the small leather bag will be your best friend if you’re wearing a long bohemian dress! In winter, it's often necessary to carry around lots of little essentials like lip balm, hand cream, your gloves, your mobile phone, and so on.
In the absence of pockets in your dress, a small bag will be perfect for keeping everything organised and easily accessible. As previously mentioned, you can choose one in a boho style, featuring fringes, embroidery, or beads...
