What is the Winter Bohemian Look?
Often viewed as a summer trend, the bohemian style can actually be adapted for all seasons. Of course, when it's cold, you can't just get by with a light dress and sandals. During the times of the year when the weather plays tricks on us, you can definitely dress bohemian by layering multiple pieces of clothing, sometimes allowing various layers to peek out and playing with different fabrics and prints.
On top of that, the boho trend really embraces natural materials: cotton, linen, leather, as well as wool, which has excellent insulating properties, making it perfect for the winter.
In short, dressing bohemian in winter gives you even more options to mix and match your clothes, allowing you to wear a style that truly reflects who you are.
Dare to rock a monochrome look with different textures
Are you a fan of bohemian fashion? If so, you probably know all about prints and patterns! However, during winter, you can also embrace this trend with a monochrome style by choosing clothing with unique textures or elaborate embroideries.
Feel free to mix dresses with jackets that you might not usually pair them with, by playing with contrasts. Fabrics like velvet or leather, for instance, often enhance softer and shinier fabrics.
👉 Winter is also the season for cool colours like blue, grey, purple, and green. It’s the perfect time to blend these shades into your bohemian wardrobe by playing with gradients!
The Chunky Knit Cardigan or Sweater: A Must-Have Bohemian Piece for Winter
Worried about feeling chilly in a long dress? Don't fret, as sweaters and cardigans can add a cosy touch to your bohemian look. To stay trendy and warm, I recommend opting for styles that are quite long and thick, featuring chunky knits.
We often think that loose clothing can make us look bulkier and wider. But that's not true! In fact, it’s quite the opposite. With oversized and long clothes, your figure will appear slimmer and more elongated.
Additionally, when you feel comfortable in your clothes, you'll come across as a natural and spontaneous person who exudes self-confidence. 😉

Keep Your Legs Warm with Knee-High or Thigh-High Boots
Even if you choose thick tights, tights aren't always enough to keep you warm when wearing a dress. To increase the amount of your body that is covered by clothing, you can also opt for boots, or even better, thigh-high boots. These very high shoes will cover a large part of your legs while giving you a very feminine look. They will elevate both a short dress and a long dress!
👉 If you're looking to elongate and slim down your silhouette, I recommend opting for heeled boots. However, flat-soled shoes can also work perfectly if you can't wear heels or if you need comfortable footwear for everyday use, such as for work.
Fringes: The Chic Boho Detail for Winter
As you probably already know, the bohemian style is defined by many creative and original details. This can include embroidered natural and colourful patterns, or even beads. These little touches of personalization are a way to make your clothing your own and express, through them, who you are.
In the 1970s, it was the hippies who began to reinvent everyday clothing in this way, to express their individuality and beliefs. The "peace and love" symbol is one of their recurring motifs!
Drawing inspiration from Native American customs and revitalising them, the hippies have also brought fringes back into fashion, which we now see in today's bohemian style. This season, they have even made their way onto the runways, as showcased by Prada, Boss, and Christian Dior!
Now is the perfect time to add fringes to your wardrobe, whether to complement a dress or any other bohemian outfit. You can choose to style it in various ways:
- a fringed jacket,
- a pair of fringed ankle boots,
- a bag with this type of detail…
Go for Accessories to Showcase Your Bohemian Spirit!
Wondering how to accessorise your bohemian dress? If you love this trend, it's likely that you also enjoy wearing various accessories to make your look unique.
However, I often notice that in winter, people tend to wear fewer accessories. Sometimes, it could be for a practical reason: chunky rings, for instance, often get caught in clothing when putting them on... which happens many times a day in winter. Just like with clothing, I recommend that you combine smaller accessories and focus on pieces that are suitable for the season, such as those I will share with you in the following lines.
The Hat
To look stylish, nothing beats wearing a nice hat that complements your winter bohemian dress! I recommend sticking with the boho theme by choosing natural colours, from light camel brown to dark brown, ensuring that your headwear matches the rest of your outfit.
👉 To keep even warmer, pair your hat with a big oversized knitted scarf. 😉
The Small Leather Bag
Super practical for everyday use, the small leather bag will become your best mate, especially if you’re wearing a flowy bohemian dress! Indeed, during the winter, it’s often essential to have all sorts of little items with you, such as lip balm, hand cream, your gloves, your phone, and so on.
If your dress doesn’t have pockets, a small bag will be perfect to keep everything organised and easily accessible. As mentioned earlier, you could go for a boho style, with fringes, embroidery, or beads…
