How Does Potager City Work?

Potager City allows you to save time on your grocery shopping by picking up fresh fruit and vegetable baskets near your home. You can choose from:

  • only fruits,
  • only vegetables,
  • a mix of both.

The possible quantities are:

  • 5.5 lbs of fruits (recommended for 2 to 3 people),
  • 6.6 lbs of vegetables (recommended for 2 to 3 people),
  • 10 lbs of assorted fruits and vegetables (recommended for 2 to 3 people),
  • 13.2 lbs of assorted fruits and vegetables (recommended for 4 to 5 people).

Are These Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables?

Absolutely! In fact, this is the primary criterion for selecting products delivered by Potager City. There’s no way you’ll receive strawberries in the middle of October or tomatoes in December! Your baskets will be filled solely with seasonal fruits and vegetables, chosen for their quality.

Where do the products delivered by Potager City come from?

The Potager City team aims to prioritize local products as much as possible. When you sign up, you’ll be asked which region you live in: this will help us deliver fruits and vegetables grown near you.

Potager City local producers

🍌 For exotic fruits that don’t grow in our region, Potager City collaborates with organic partner producers. We purchase these products directly from them, ensuring they are fairly compensated for their work.

Can you add products to your order?

Of course! Once you sign up (you don’t need to subscribe, just create an account with your email), you’ll have access to the Potager City store. This allows you to order complementary products along with your shopping cart. These can include:

  • Specific fruits and vegetables from a producer,
  • Organic eggs sold by the half dozen or dozen,
  • Bouquets of fresh herbs,
  • Flour,
  • Cane sugar,
  • Jams,
  • Fruit juices,
  • Variety of savory grocery items…

👉 This is very convenient because it allows you to pick up other local and sustainable products when you retrieve your order, saving you the hassle of making frequent trips to a health food store, for example.

Is there a commitment at Potager City?

Not at all! Two ordering options are available to you:

  • No subscription: in this case, you will receive only one basket. This is perfect for trying it out!
  • With subscription: you will receive a basket every week, but you can pause, modify, or cancel your subscription at any time.

How Does Delivery and Pickup of the Baskets Work?

Unlike some other competitors, Potager City does not deliver baskets to your home. Instead, they are dropped off at a nearby partner store for you to pick up.

There are many pickup points in France: over 6,300 at the moment! By clicking on this link, you’ll discover the one closest to your location!

As its name suggests, Potager City is more developed in urban areas. The brand is doing its best to establish pickup points in rural regions, but these are less common.

      About Trustpilot

As I write this article, Potager City has a rating of 2.9 / 5 on Trustpilot, which is considered average by the platform. There are fewer customer reviews here than on Google, with a total of 69 reviews.

      Potager City Trustpilot

This mixed review can be attributed to several customers noticing that there are exotic fruits and vegetables in their Potager City basket. The brand, however, explains its approach: the goal is to sell primarily French products, but occasionally include fruits and vegetables sourced from farther away. Nonetheless, there are no middlemen involved; most of these products are organic, and the producer is paid a fair price that reflects the value of their work.

Some customers are also disappointed by the price, which they feel is high. However, there is a good proportion of positive 5-star reviews that praise the concept and the quality of the fruits and vegetables.

Potager City is a French company that has been around since 2007. It is based in Lyon, France. My Verdict on Potager City ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Normally, I’m the kind of person who buys my fruits and vegetables from local producers at my neighborhood’s weekly market. It takes some time, but I don’t want to give up buying local because it aligns with my values.

When I first heard about Potager City, I was intrigued by the idea of buying fruits and vegetables from local producers without having to go to the market. So, I decided to try it out for a week without a subscription, and then I subscribed for a few months.

      City potager meal

Since there are three of us at home (two adults and one child), I chose the variety box for €18.90 (€17.90 with a subscription) which includes assorted fruits and vegetables. The quantity is just right for a week, but I regularly add extra fruits and products (like fruit juices and jams) through the store. I don’t buy my eggs from Potager City because I think the price of €3 for 6 eggs is a bit expensive.

So far, I have always been happy with the variety of fruits and vegetables as well as their quality. The very simple packaging, a recyclable kraft bag, works perfectly for me. I’m also pleased to continue supporting local products, but while saving a lot of time since I no longer need to go to the market!

      Potagercity

I wanted to sign my mother up, who lives in the countryside, to introduce her to the concept, but unfortunately, there was no pickup location nearby. So I was a bit disappointed… I hope there will be a pickup location soon!

In summary, I recommend Potager City for the quality of their fruits and vegetables and their commitment to supporting local producers, even though some prices can be a bit high at times.
