I tried Potager City in the Bordeaux region for several months. Today, I'm sharing my experience with you.

How Does Potager City Work?

Potager City lets you save time on your grocery shopping by collecting fresh fruit and vegetable baskets near your home. You can choose:

  • only fruits,
  • only vegetables,
  • a mix of both.

The possible quantities are:

  • 2.5 kg of fruits (recommended for 2 to 3 people),
  • 3 kg of vegetables (recommended for 2 to 3 people),
  • 4.5 kg of assorted fruits and vegetables (recommended for 2 to 3 people),
  • 6 kg of assorted fruits and vegetables (recommended for 4 to 5 people).

Are they seasonal fruits and vegetables?

Absolutely! In fact, this is the primary criterion for selecting products delivered by Potager City. There’s no way you’ll be receiving strawberries in October or tomatoes in December! Your baskets will be filled solely with seasonal fruits and vegetables, chosen for their quality.

Where do the products delivered by Potager City come from?

The Potager City team strives to prioritize local products as much as possible. When you sign up, you will be asked which region you live in: this will help us deliver fruits and vegetables that are grown close to your area.

Potager City regional producers

🍌 For exotic fruits that don't grow in our region, Potager City collaborates with organic partner producers. The products are sourced directly from them, ensuring they are fairly compensated for their efforts.

Can we add products to our order?

Sure thing. Once you're registered (there's no need to subscribe, just create an account with your email), you can access the Potager City shop. Here, you can order complementary products along with your shopping basket. These could include:

  • Specific fruits and vegetables from a local producer,
  • Organic eggs sold in packs of 6 or 12,
  • Herb bundles,
  • Flour,
  • Cane sugar,
  • Jams,
  • Fruit juices,
  • Assorted savoury groceries...

👉 This is really convenient because it allows you to collect other responsible and local products while picking up your basket, saving you trips to an organic store, for example.

Is there a commitment at Potager City?

Not at all! You have two ordering options available:

  • No subscription: in this case, you'll only receive one basket. It's perfect for trying it out!
  • With subscription: you get a basket every week, but you can pause, change, or cancel your subscription at any time.

How does the delivery and collection of the baskets work?

Unlike some other competitors, Potager City does not deliver baskets directly to your home. Instead, these are dropped off at a nearby collection point, usually at a partner merchant.

There are many pickup points in France: over 6,300 at the moment! By clicking on this link, you'll find the one closest to you!

As the name suggests, Potager City is more developed in urban areas. The brand is trying its best to establish pick-up points in rural areas, but these are less common.

      About Trustpilot

As I write this article, Potager City has a rating of 2.9 / 5 on Trustpilot, which is considered average by the platform. There are fewer customer reviews compared to Google, with a total of 69 reviews.

      Potager City Trustpilot

This mixed feedback comes from several customers noting the presence of exotic fruits and vegetables in their Potager City baskets. The brand clarifies its approach: it aims to sell primarily French products, but occasionally includes fruits and vegetables from further afield. However, there are no middlemen involved, most of these products are organic, and the producers are paid a fair price that reflects the value of their work.

Some customers are also disappointed with the price, which they find to be quite high. However, there is a good proportion of positive 5-star reviews that praise the concept and the quality of the fruits and vegetables.

      Is Potager City a Scam?

Potager City is a French company that has been around since 2007. It is based in Lyon, France. This venture is the result of a family journey, as the company, which now has nearly a hundred employees, was founded by two brothers who wanted to provide an easy solution for healthy eating. In 2020, the Carrefour group acquired the start-up.

Potager City is well established in the business landscape and distributes baskets to numerous companies (including major brands) that serve as a relay.

My Verdict on Potager City ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Usually, I buy my fruits and vegetables from local producers at my neighbourhood's weekly market. It takes time, but I don’t want to give up on buying local, as it aligns with my beliefs.

When I first heard about Potager City, I was intrigued by the idea of buying fruits and vegetables from local producers without having to go to the market. So, I initially tried it for a week without a subscription, and then I subscribed for a few months.

      Potager city meal

Since there are three of us at home (two adults and one child), I've chosen the varied fruit and vegetable basket for S$18.90 (S$17.90 with a subscription). The quantity is just right for a week, but I often add extra fruits and products (like fruit juices and jams) from the store. I don't buy my eggs from Potager City as I find the price of S$3 for 6 eggs a bit expensive.

So far, I have always been happy with the variety of fruits and vegetables as well as their quality. The very simple packaging, a recyclable kraft bag, suits me perfectly. I'm also glad to continue consuming local produce, but while saving a lot of time, since I no longer need to go to the market!

      Potagercity

I wanted to subscribe my mother, who lives in the countryside, to introduce her to the concept, but unfortunately, there was no pickup point near her home. I was a bit disappointed... I hope there will be a pickup point soon!

In summary, I recommend Potager City for the quality of their fruits and vegetables, as well as their effort to support local producers, even though the prices for some products can be a bit on the high side.
