Are you looking to wear a strapless dress on a daily basis, for your wedding, or for a special event? Do you need a hairstyle that will enhance your look and complement your outfit?
You’ve come to the right place.
As a fashion enthusiast, I understand how crucial it is to enhance a dress or top by taking the time to find a hairstyle that complements both your face and the outfit.
Today, I'm sharing all my hairstyle inspirations to wear with a strapless dress, no matter your hair length.
If you have long hair and regularly wear a strapless dress, you can style your hair in a lovely ponytail, a half-up hairstyle (very trendy!), or any type of bun. Thanks to its volume, pin-up inspired hairstyles will also be quite suitable. If your wedding dress is strapless, you can enhance it with an elaborate voluminous bun or a braid that can be styled as a crown, to the side, or at the back. Don't forget to consider flower crowns and other accessories to complete your hairstyle.

4 Tips for Nailing Your Hairstyle with an Off-the-Shoulder Dress
No matter the occasion for which you plan to wear a strapless dress, these simple tips will help you achieve a lovely look, without having to redo your hairstyle multiple times.
Style your hair after putting on your dress
It may seem obvious, but it's worth mentioning: to avoid ruining your hairstyle or creating frizz while putting on your dress, style your hair while you're already wearing it. This way, you'll also find it easier to envision the final look, as you'll be able to consider the details of your outfit since it's already on you.
Style your hair or add some volume
Strapless dresses are great for highlighting your décolletage, shoulders, and face. You can make the most of this by pulling your hair up, which reveals your neck and nape, giving you a glamorous and sensual look.
If you prefer to wear your hair down, don’t hesitate to give it some volume: it will balance out your silhouette and complement your dress beautifully.
Set Your Hairstyle with Hairspray
Once your hairstyle is completed, apply a generous amount of hairspray to hold it in place. This is essential if you have braids, a bun, or some sculpted strands. I recommend opting for a good brand of hairspray if possible, and avoiding the budget options to prevent a cardboard-like effect on your hair.
Plan for Accessories in Matching Colours
Whether it's for everyday wear or a special occasion, accessories are what will complete your look, adding sophistication and originality to your outfit. I recommend choosing them to match your dress, as well as your shoes and jewellery. The easiest approach is to coordinate colours, but you can also, especially with jewellery, go for the same shape or vintage style, for instance.
What quick hairstyle goes well with a strapless dress for everyday wear?
Are you looking to wear a strapless dress this summer to show off your shoulders in the sunshine? To help you out, I’ve put together a selection of simple and stylish hairstyles that will be perfect for feeling beautiful in the sun!
A ponytail, braided or not
If you have long or mid-length hair, you can put it up in a ponytail, which will keep your shoulders and face clear. It's ideal if you're planning to be active, go out, or do some sport. To add volume, don’t hesitate to brush your hair upside down before tying it up, or even lean your head forward while securing it.
To switch things up a bit, you can braid it, curl your hair, or tie it up with a lovely ribbon. You can even hide the elastic with a strand of your hair, which you can straighten and then wrap around it, securing it with a small clip!
A Half Ponytail
The half ponytail is a great alternative to the previous hairstyle, allowing you to frame your face while maintaining the natural look of loose hair. It's quite trendy and particularly suits oval-shaped faces. Similar to a full ponytail, you can either braid it or leave it simple, but it's important to add some volume by starting from the top of your head. Lastly, it’s an ideal solution for those with short hair who want to tie their hair back! 😉

A lovely messy bun
The messy bun is a bohemian hairstyle that, when done right, keeps your hair up and out of the way. It’s perfect for a strapless dress, as it exposes your shoulders completely, allowing you to show them off along with any jewellery you’re wearing (like a necklace or earrings). High messy buns will complement oval and round faces, while those worn lower will be ideal for softening square or angular faces.
A Pin-Up Inspired Hairstyle
If you love strapless dresses and a vintage style, why not embrace a pin-up hairstyle? All you need to do is twist your hair into a bun and wear a lovely colourful scarf (matching your strapless dress!) around your head.
The little extra that makes a difference is to keep a section of hair at the front of your head, which you can curl to create a small roll and then pin it to the back. This hairstyle is iconic of the 50s and the rockabilly era!
A half-bun
Much like the half ponytail, the half bun is perfect for those with shorter hair, or if you want to keep your face clear. It's styled at the top of the head, at the back, using about ⅓ of the volume of your hair. For a flawless look, make sure to style the loose section well, as it will fall over your strapless dress.

What elegant and bohemian hairstyle goes with a strapless dress for an event?
Are you planning to wear a chic strapless dress or even a wedding gown with this type of neckline? If so, you’re probably on the hunt for an exceptional hairstyle that will be the perfect finishing touch to your queenly outfit!
A stylish and ornate bun
A bun created by a hairstylist or someone skilled in the art of hairdressing is a world apart from the one you quickly throw together when you're rushing in the morning. To enhance your strapless dress, you could choose this meticulously crafted hairstyle, which can be adorned with braids, waves, and even hair accessories.
If it's a wedding hairstyle, it's an ideal choice, as it showcases your neck and the upper part of your back, which will be visible during your ceremony when you're facing away from your guests.
A Long Braid
The asymmetrical long braid is a bohemian and romantic hairstyle that looks stunning with long hair. It will drape gently over your strapless dress, creating a beautiful connection between your outfit and your hairstyle, giving unity to your look. This style is especially flattering for oval and long faces.

A crown braid or a half braid
If there's a hairstyle that perfectly blends the two previous styles, it's the crown braid! It combines the advantages of both styles, as it enhances your shoulders and neckline, while also having the boho vibe of a braid. If your hair is too short to create a full crown braid, you can also go for a half crown braid, which will adorn just one side of your hair!
Going Natural with Loose Hair
Finally, if you prefer the spontaneity and glamour of loose hair, know that it's a hairstyle that works well with a strapless dress. However, I recommend shaping your cut with some layers, and, if possible, ensure your hair doesn't fall too much over your outfit, especially at the back. This will help you maintain the sexy vibe of the backless design of your strapless dress!

What hairstyle for short to medium-length hair with a strapless dress?
Is your hair shoulder-length? If so, finding a hairstyle for a smart outfit can be tricky, as most options are typically aimed at those with long hair… But don't worry, I've got you covered! Here are some hairstyle ideas for shorter hair:
- Style your hair to the side with a tiara,
- Create a small braid on the side of your head,
- Add volume to your hair with some waves,
- Two small braids that meet at the back of your head,
- Shave one side of your head (side-cut) and style your hair on the other side,
- A bob adorned with a tiara or a flower crown,
- Add a lovely veil to your hair with clips,
- And don’t shy away from bangs for a change from your usual look!
- Use hair gel to slick your hair back,
- Wear dangling earrings if you have very short hair.
