What is the Winter Bohemian Look?

Often viewed as a summer trend, the bohemian style can actually be worn in all seasons. Of course, when it's chilly, you can't just rely on a light dress and sandals. During those times of the year when the weather is unpredictable, you can absolutely embrace a bohemian look by layering multiple clothing pieces, allowing some layers to peek out, and experimenting with various fabrics and prints.

Additionally, the boho trend embraces natural materials: cotton, linen, leather, and also wool, for instance, which has excellent insulation properties, making it perfect for winter.

In summary, dressing bohemian in winter gives you even more options to mix and match your clothing and showcase a style that truly represents you.

Dare to Embrace the Monochrome Look with Different Textures

Are you a fan of bohemian fashion? In that case, patterns and prints are likely second nature to you! However, during winter, you can also embrace this trend with a monochrome style by opting for clothing that features unique textures or beautiful embroidery.

Feel free to pair dresses with jackets that you might not usually consider together, by playing with contrasts. Fabrics like velvet or leather, for example, often enhance smoother and brighter fabrics.

👉 Winter is also the season for cool colours like blue, grey, mauve, and green. It’s the perfect time to incorporate these shades into your bohemian wardrobe by playing with gradients!

The Cardigan or Chunky Knit Sweater: The Essential Bohemian Piece for Winter

Are you worried about feeling cold in a simple long dress? Keep in mind that sweaters and cardigans can add a cozy touch to your bohemian look. To stay on trend and keep warm, I recommend opting for styles that are quite long and thick, featuring chunky knits.

It's often thought that loose clothing tends to make our silhouette look heavier and our waist appear wider. This isn't true! In fact, the opposite happens. With flowing and long garments, your silhouette will appear slimmer and more elongated.

Additionally, by being comfortable in your clothes, you will project an image of someone who is relaxed and spontaneous, and who exudes self-confidence. 😉

Warm Up Your Legs with Tall Boots or Thigh-Highs

Even if you choose thick ones, tights are not always enough to keep you warm when wearing a dress. To increase the amount of your body covered by clothing, you can also opt for boots, or even better, thigh-highs. These high shoes will cover a significant portion of your legs while giving you a very feminine look. They will enhance both a short dress and a long dress!

👉 If you want to elongate and refine your silhouette, I recommend opting for heeled boots. However, flat soles will also work perfectly well if you can't wear heels or if you need comfortable shoes for everyday use, such as for work.

The Fringe: The Boho Chic Detail for Winter

As you may already know, the bohemian style is characterized by many creative and original details. This can include embroidered natural and colourful patterns, or even beads. These small personal touches are a way to make your clothing your own and to express, through them, the person you are.

Thus, it was the hippies in the 1970s who began to reinvent everyday clothing in this way, to express their individuality and beliefs. The “peace and love” symbol, for instance, is one of their recurring motifs!

Drawing inspiration from the customs of Indigenous peoples of the Americas, the hippies also revived fringe styles, which have become a staple in today’s bohemian fashion. This season, we even saw them on the runways, showcased by designers such as Prada, Boss, and Christian Dior!

Now is the perfect time to incorporate fringes into your wardrobe to complement a dress or any other bohemian outfit, choosing how to style it:

  • a fringed jacket,
  • fringe ankle boots,
  • a bag with this type of detail…

Focus on Accessories to Express Your Bohemian Spirit!

Wondering how to accessorize your bohemian dress? If you love this trend, it's likely that you also enjoy wearing various accessories to personalize your look.

However, I often notice that in winter, it’s less common to wear accessories. Sometimes this can be for practical reasons: large rings, for example, often get caught in clothing when you put them on... which happens many times a day in winter. As with clothing, I recommend that you combine smaller accessories and focus on pieces that are suitable for the season, such as those I invite you to discover in the following lines.

The Hat

To look stylish, nothing beats choosing a beautiful hat that will enhance your winter bohemian dress! I recommend sticking to the boho style by wearing natural colours, from light camel brown to dark brown, and selecting your headwear to match the rest of your outfit.

👉 To stay even warmer, pair your hat with a cozy oversized knit scarf. 😉

The Small Leather Bag

Super convenient for daily use, the small leather bag will be your best friend if you're wearing a long bohemian dress! In fact, during the winter, it's often necessary to carry various small items like lip balm, hand cream, your gloves, your phone, and so on.

In the absence of pockets on your dress, a small bag will be perfect for keeping everything organized and easily accessible. As mentioned earlier, you can choose it in a boho style, with fringe, embroidery, or beads…
