My Thoughts on AQUARELLE, the Bespoke Flower Subscription Box

In the past, to send flowers, it was essential to visit an Interflora florist. However, things have become much more convenient, and now you can do everything online!

A few months ago, for Mother's Day, I wanted to gift my mum a flower subscription: I turned to Aquarelle for this service. I'll let you find out in detail whether the result was up to my expectations.

What is the Aquarelle Flower Subscription?

How does the Aquarelle flower subscription work?

Because most people love receiving flowers, the Aquarelle floral subscription is a fantastic idea for bringing a touch of nature and lovely colours into your home.

With this subscription, the recipient (which could be yourself) will regularly receive a surprise bouquet, delivered to an address of their choice. This could even be a workplace, to brighten up a reception desk or an office, for example.

What are the available options for bouquets?

Unlike the bouquets with pre-set designs available on the website, the bouquets from the subscription service are created without a standard template, based on:

• the arrival of seasonal French flowers at the workshop,
• the florist's inspiration and style.

Aquarelle offers you two different sizes of bouquets:

👉 A bouquet measuring 35 cm typically comprises around fifteen small to medium-sized roses or seasonal flowers. For a size of 40 centimetres, you can expect about twenty flowers.

What is the subscription frequency?

Aquarelle offers three delivery options:

• Once a month,
• Twice a month,
• Four times a month.

👉 When you sign up, you must select the date of your first delivery. The bouquets are delivered between 8 am and 2 pm, excluding public holidays. If you choose a Saturday, subsequent deliveries will also be made on that same day: you will also have the option to view their schedule from your customer account.

Who creates the bouquets?

The bouquets are created by Aquarelle florists, who work in a workshop located in France, in the Oise region. The delivery of the bouquets is then guaranteed:

• by bike if you live in Paris,
• by a traditional courier service if you live elsewhere.

Which flowers will be included in the Aquarelle bouquets?

In the subscription plans, we offer seasonal flowers sourced from France. This means that during winter, you’re more likely to receive flowers such as tulips, ranunculus, anemones... and you will have to wait until May to enjoy a lovely bouquet of peonies!

You cannot choose the colour of your bouquet, but by opting for Aquarelle, you are supporting the French economy and ensuring fair compensation for French flower producers. Choosing an Aquarelle subscription is also a committed gesture for the planet, as it helps to avoid importing flowers by air and reduces excessive packaging.

Is there a no-commitment offer with Aquarelle?

Absolutely, and this is particularly something that sets the brand apart from some of its competitors. For me, this aspect was decisive. If you choose the "no commitment" option, the price of the bouquet, which is £39, will be automatically charged with each delivery.

If you wish to subscribe to regularly delivered bouquets over a long period, Aquarelle is the ideal choice, as their prices are more competitive in this regard compared to Interflora, for instance.

👉 Even if you order 4 bouquets each month for a year, you will need to pay the full amount upfront when you place your order. Here are my two tips for making payments easier:

• Pay using Paypal and take advantage of the 4 interest-free payments service offered by Paypal,
• Subscribe with no commitment to be charged £39 each time a bouquet is dispatched.

What does a Watercolour bouquet look like?

For my part, I was pleased with the bouquets I sent to my mother through Aquarelle. I was able to see some of them in person and received photos of the others, and I appreciated the variety of flower types that made them up and the colour harmony created by the florist.

Compared to what you might find at a florist for the same price, I think that the size of the watercolour bouquets is quite satisfactory. The bouquets are well-packaged and have always arrived in good condition.

On the other hand, I was able to include a little note with my first order, which was attached to the bouquet as a card. It's really lovely!

You can then choose the duration and frequency of the subscription, enter your message, and proceed to payment. Once this is completed, Aquarelle will send you a code via email that you can give to the recipient of the gift.

What is the main drawback of this gift card? ❌

This type of subscription does not provide access to the no-commitment offer, which allows you to pay for the bouquets as they are delivered and stop whenever you wish. The minimum order is therefore one bouquet once a month for three months.

👉 This is the main reason why I preferred to subscribe directly rather than using the gift card.

My Verdict on Interflora's Flower Subscription

After three months of Aquarelle subscription, I’m able to share a first review with you.

🔹 Regarding the registration on the site, it was very simple and I was able to easily find what I was looking for. I didn't use the gift card system, as I wanted to get a subscription without commitment to send bouquets to my mother for a few months.

🔹 Regarding the bouquets, the result was really lovely and met my expectations. My mum was delighted with the surprise and appreciated the little note that accompanied it. I would have liked to add a small gift to my order, such as chocolates or a candle, as I noticed that Aquarelle has its own collection of candles. It’s a shame that this isn't possible...

🔹 Of course, I would have preferred to use a florist near my mother’s home, but I really wanted bouquets made with flowers from France, and that wasn’t possible. Aquarelle was therefore the best compromise to meet this request, while ensuring that the bouquet was created by "real" florists.

🔹 Before choosing Aquarelle, I took a look at what else was available. Compared to the competition, Aquarelle Flowers becomes really appealing when you order or have bouquets delivered regularly or over an extended period.
