When you love reading, the joy of immersing yourself in a new story is unparalleled. However, there are times when you simply don't have the time or opportunity to find a new book!
A few months ago, I discovered a subscription box unlike any other: it’s called Kube, a book box curated by a bookseller. Today, I’d like to share my thoughts on this original concept!

How does the Kube box work?
Kube is a monthly box: it works like a subscription! In practical terms, this means you receive a book at home each month, selected specifically for you based on your preferences.
Source: lakube.com
What will I find in my Kube box?
The Kube box contains, of course, a paperback or semi-paperback book, as well as other small gifts. It is designed as a relaxing interlude centred around the world of literature and reading.
In addition to the book, you will also discover in each box:
📖 An exciting discovery from a publishing house: a stunning poster, a preview of an upcoming novel, and more...
🍵 A spot of tea can transform your reading sessions into a truly relaxing experience.
🎁 Some little gifts to enhance your reading experience: sweets, notebooks, reusable straws, ...
📑 A bookmark,
📩 A postcard,
📕 The Kube magazine covers literary news, new releases in the world of culture and publishing...
What type of book can you find in the Kube box?
In the Kube box, you won't necessarily find a novel! Depending on your preferences, it could also be a manga, a comic, an essay, or a collection of poems...
How are Kube books selected?
We arrive at what I believe makes the Kube box exceptional: the books are carefully selected by qualified booksellers who work in independent bookstores across France.
To do this, you will receive a monthly email questionnaire, in which you can specify your reading preferences. You will also be asked to mention your favourite books and the genres that interest you.
Here is an example of the email you will receive. Once you have answered the questions, you will be able to specify whether you would like to keep the surprise or if you would prefer to approve the bookseller's choice.
If you choose the second option, an email confirming the book selected by the bookseller will be sent to you. You can then approve it to receive the book, or request a different selection.
👉 If you have already read the book that you've received as a surprise (I've had that happen to me!), don't worry! Kube will exchange it for free upon request!
How is Kube different from other book boxes?
Kube has the unique feature of being truly personalised and supporting independent bookshops. It currently collaborates with over 200 booksellers, who offer their expertise in the publishing world to help you discover your next favourite reads.
Subscribing to Kube is also a way to support independent bookstores and local businesses rather than the big delivery companies (like Amazon and Fnac...).

How to get an official book in my Kube box?
The Kube "Original" box contains a pocket or semi-pocket book, priced between ten euros and 16 euros. If you prefer a lovely large-format book, it's better to choose the Kube Majuscule.
This box contains the same items and gifts as the classic Kube (tea, literary discovery, stationery, magazine...), but inside you will find a large format book, which could also be a new literary release. In fact, paperback books typically come out at least a year after the first edition.
Here are a few examples of Kube with a capital 'K'...

Is there a commitment with Kube?
No! The Kube subscription is cancellable at any time.
Where does Kube deliver?
Kube available worldwide: it's one of the few boxes on the market that offers this. This makes it the ideal gift for someone who is living abroad, for instance!
What is the price of the Kube box?
Kube offers simple pricing and has a limited range of options. Therefore, it's easy to choose the Kube that suits you best from the following three:
Kube Name | Type of Books | Target Audience | Monthly Fee |
Original | Paperbacks and semi-paperbacks, Comics, Manga, ... | Adults and teenagers | £16 |
Uppercase | Large Format, Illustrated Books, Adult Comics, ... | Adults and teenagers | £24 |
7 - 11 | Fiction, Picture Books, etc. | Children aged 7 to 11 | £16 |
Are there any shipping charges with the Kube box? 🚚
Yes, you need to add a shipping fee of €3.90 to the price listed above for France, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Luxembourg.
For other countries, you will need to plan for:
- €4.90 in the rest of the European Union,
- €5.90 in Switzerland and Canada,
- €6.90 in the rest of the world.
Who is Kube for?
This box has been designed for book lovers, but also for those looking to get into reading (or back into it), for the curious, and generally, for anyone who enjoys making delightful discoveries.
It is a general subscription service, non-elitist, aimed at making reading accessible to all. The aim of Kube's booksellers is to cater to the preferences of subscribers.
The Kube box is designed for you if you are looking to:
- Reading comics or mangas,
- Diving into a lengthy novel,
- Discovering books in foreign languages,
- Dreaming with fictions set in other worlds,
- Exploring works of philosophy, science, poetry...
👉 I like to think of Kube as having a vast library at your fingertips. By placing our trust in the librarian, we often discover gems that we would never have found on our own!
Is there a Kube box for children as well?
For younger children, Kube offers the "7-11" box, which, as the name suggests, is aimed at children aged 7 to 11. Like its older sibling, it is a monthly box priced at £16, with no commitment, delivered straight to your home.
What’s Inside the Kube Youth Box?
The content is, of course, tailored to spark children's interest in reading, featuring:
- A magazine,
- Two books selected by a bookseller based on the child's interests and preferences,
- A postcard,
- A bookmark featuring an activity.
Source: Lakube.com
Is it just as good for adults?
The KUBE 7-11 box operates on the same principle as the standard Kube box. It is also based on your child's preferences:
Source: Lakube.com
I think this box is truly a fantastic gift idea for a child. Receiving books each month fosters a reading habit and gradually builds a lovely personal library.
As this is a themed box, children will be able to open up to the world and discover new things, new environments.
👉 Additionally, if the child has already read the book they received, it is possible to request another one for free by contacting Kube's customer service via email!
Is this Kube box suitable for teens?
The Kube 7-11 is truly intended for children who are just beginning their reading journey, both in terms of reading level and the chosen themes. These themes are more likely to engage children aged 7 to 11 than teenagers.
However, the Kube Original box at £16 and the Kube Majuscule at £24 are perfectly suited for teenagers! Just specify in the monthly survey about reading preferences that you (or your teenager) prefer children's books. 😉
The Kube Box: The Perfect Gift?
Since this is a book box, Kube is a gift idea that is simple, unique, and likely to be enjoyed by a wide range of people.
Who should receive a Kube box?
Whether it's for a birthday, Christmas, or just to bring a smile, Kube makes for the perfect gift for:
- A person who loves reading,
- Someone who is eager to learn and discover new things,
- A curious child,
- A teenager,
- An elderly person or someone with limited mobility who is looking for something to occupy their time...
It's truly a simple gift to give, and it always brings joy!

What gift cards does Kube offer?
There are 3 options for gift cards at Kube:
- The Kube Original box is the most affordable. It's suitable for everyone, including teenagers, and offers quality content every month.
- The Kube Uppercase box is a bit more expensive, but it will delight anyone who enjoys new literary releases. The large-format books will look stunning on their bookshelf!
- The Kube 7-11 box is perfect for young readers who are still in primary school!
How to give a Kube gift card?
To do this, you need to visit the Kube website. Then, you can click on "Gift Cards" in the main menu. After that, you just need to select the gift card you are interested in by clicking on it.

Discover Kube gift boxes for a lovely present!
Not too keen on the subscription option? In that case, Kube offers an alternative with its gift boxes. These are beautiful themed selections that you can give as a gift or treat yourself to for your own enjoyment.
Personally, I find the themes of these boxes to be unique, and their design is truly impressive. Here are a few examples of boxes that you can find on the Kube website:
- Thriller,
- Inspirational Women,
- Nordic Countries,
- Crime Fiction,
- A Day on the Farm (children),

In every box, discover what has made Kube a success:
- 3 or 4 books selected by independent booksellers,
- some small gifts: stationery, dried flowers, biscuits, tea...
- packaging related to the theme.
💰 The kits for teenagers and adults are priced at £75 each, while those for children are £55. Please note that shipping costs are also applicable, but they are quite reasonable, as they are the same as the subscription fees.
🤑 There are often discounts available on the gift sets! At the moment, the "Nordic Countries" set is priced at £65, for example.

Positive review from a Kube customer posted on the Trustpilot platform
❌ They liked it less
- For a select few individuals: some occasional delivery issues caused by the carrier Colis Privé (minor delays, etc.),
- Occasionally, there may be a discrepancy between the price of the book and the cost of the box, but this also accounts for the small gifts and the selection service.

My Verdict on Kube ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's been around six months since I subscribed to Kube, and I am very pleased with this box! Let me explain the reasons in the following lines!
Was it easy to subscribe to the Kube box?
I discovered Kube through a gift I received: a three-month subscription. I was given a code that I could enter on the website, allowing me to easily set up my delivery details.
As I was very satisfied after three months, I decided to subscribe. This was also done very quickly. I had been given a gift card for the Kube Original, and this time I chose to receive the Kube Majuscule, which comes with large-format books.
I was able to easily compare the options and place my order, opting for home delivery.

What did I think of the books selected by the bookseller?
Whether it's the original Kube that was given to me as a gift or the Kube Majuscule to which I am still subscribed, I have never been disappointed with the books selected for me. There have been some true favourites as well as others that I found interesting or intriguing, but none have let me down.
Booksellers have always adapted to my requests, even the most specific ones (English books, choose-your-own-adventure novels, contemporary graphic novels...).
Furthermore, I really enjoyed interacting with the Kube team, who are very friendly when communicating via email! This is very important and it makes you want to stay.

What are my thoughts on the rest of the box?
What I found interesting about Kube was really the books, especially with the Majuscule box, which allows me to receive the latest releases. However, I must say that I've always enjoyed opening my parcel and discovering each of the little gifts that accompanied my box, one by one. Being somewhat of a foodie, I absolutely loved everything that included biscuits, teas, and so on.
For those who aren't keen on tea, it might be lovely to replace it with a nice hot chocolate, or something similar. 😉
Is a gift card a good idea?
Having tested the gift card as a recipient, I was delighted by the simplicity of this system. Kube is truly a fantastic gift idea, and I'm already planning to give it to some family members for Christmas.
Source: lakube.com
Furthermore, as it is possible to give the gift card for one month, it is also suitable for budget-friendly gifts. When you want to give someone a book but you’re not sure of their tastes or preferences, this is an excellent option! The recipient can directly indicate what they prefer to the bookseller, so you won't end up missing the mark.
✅ To summarise, I am very pleased with the Kube box. Even if I were to stop my subscription, it is one that I would happily treat myself to again from time to time! Moreover, it's a perfect gift idea for the upcoming festivities. What more could you ask for? 😊
