The Long Dress: A Seasonal Staple
The long dress, a key piece in our summer wardrobe, is perfect for everyday wear and can be worn both at the beach and for elegant evenings out. Light, flowing, available in bright colours, plain or patterned, it flatters all body shapes and enhances your silhouette.
Whether it's empire line, a long-sleeved shirt style, with thin straps, or a wrap style with puffed sleeves, we continue to wear it in autumn and bring it out as soon as spring arrives, paired with a seasonal jacket.
What if we didn’t put it away at all and kept it out all year round? We're here to share how to wear your maxi dress, even during the winter months.
Which long dress should you choose for winter?
While a long dress can be worn throughout the year, not all styles are suitable for every season.
Avoid white or very light-coloured dresses, as they are too representative of summer. Instead, opt for dark colours that are easy to pair with other shades.
Bohemian-style dresses with floral patterns and vibrant prints are quite suitable for this. However, it's best to avoid slit dresses, as they are not particularly practical in winter.
Choose your dress based on the fabric; it should be of good quality, so steer clear of dresses that crease easily. Although they may look lovely, they can become a real hassle for anyone who wants to sit down during the day...
How to Properly Coordinate Your Outfit to Face the Winter Cold?
When it's cold, you'd rather wrap yourself up in warm clothes and not necessarily feel like putting on a dress.
However, with a long dress that has the great advantage of covering the legs, one can enjoy wearing a dress again, even during the winter months.
Here are some ideas for stylishly wearing your long dress in winter, so you can have a fabulous look without feeling under the weather!
Wear a long coat, a blazer, or a leather jacket
With a long dress, you can confidently wear the tailored coat or an oversized blazer, which accentuates your silhouette, especially if your waist is defined.
Alternatively, if the temperatures allow it, a leather biker jacket for a rock look.
If your dress has a pattern, choose a plain coat or jacket.
If your dress is plain, you can pair it with a checked tweed blazer for a unique and stylish look.
Pair your maxi dress with a chunky knit jumper or long cardigan
Perfect for pairing with a retro bohemian dress, it goes beautifully with a long chunky knit cardigan.
Alternatively, you can wear your long dress with a jumper, styled like a long skirt. With a fitted dress, you might consider a cropped jumper for a trendier look.
For the colours, we stick with basic colours that are easy to match, such as beige, brown, black, or grey.
Wear Thick Tights
Having a trendy and stylish look every day, absolutely! However, there's no way I'm going to be cold.
So, under your dress, you can indulge in warm, thick tights, which will be barely noticeable.
There are many solid-coloured models, some of which are referred to as polar. These are very warm, featuring a layer of fleece on the inside, providing great comfort even in extremely cold weather.
You may also choose a very thick legging if you prefer this type of design.
Wear Boots or Ankle Boots
For footwear, pair your long dress with your favourite boots or ankle boots.
In leather, suede, camel, or black, play with textures and colours.
Brown ankle boots lend a hippie vibe, perfectly paired with a fringed bag or a headband.
Motorcycle-style boots, on the other hand, convey a rebellious vibe that pairs well with a leather biker jacket.
Long dresses especially suit square heels, so it's best to avoid stiletto heels. Don't forget to match the colour of your handbag with your shoes.
Play with Ethnic Accessories
To add a bit of flair to your outfit, enhance your look with a touch of poetry featuring ethnic necklaces and statement earrings.
Continuing the theme, we define the waist with a belt over a denim shirt and add a patterned scarf to accentuate your neck and shoulders.
Bring out the hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for winter
Embrace the winter season by mixing and matching your accessories to stay warm, such as a coordinated hat and gloves set.
We tend to opt for them in solid colours, but with a prominent knit.
Opt for subtle details like a knitted flower or a shiny thread.
Add a scarf to keep warm, or a snood. And for those who want a bohemian look even in winter, consider fingerless gloves!
