Poiscaille is a subscription service that allows you to collect or have delivered boxes of seafood sourced from sustainable French fisheries to your home or a pickup point.

The shellfish, crustaceans, and fish in Poiscaille boxes are guaranteed to be extra fresh. This is really handy if you want to cook fish more often, try out new recipes, and enjoy quality produce.

👉 Additionally, thanks to an email sent to you the day before or the day before that, you have the option to select the contents of your box from a wide range of choices on the Poiscaille website.

Is there a commitment with Poiscaille baskets?

Are the fish prepared?

The fish you receive from Poiscaille are most often whole, but gutted. This means they can be prepared easily: for every kilo of whole fish, you’ll get about 500g of edible flesh once the head, tail, bones, and entrails are removed.

All the fishermen that Poiscaille work within 20 kilometres of the French coast. The fishing methods they use help protect the oceans, using vessels that are no longer than 12 metres. They do not use trawling or the technique of net dredging, which can have a devastating impact on biodiversity.

Poiscaille provides a decent life for fishermen 🎣

Poiscaille ensures that it fairly compensates its partner fishermen, so as to preserve their work and expertise, allowing them to make a living from their trade.

These individuals are indeed at the helm of small businesses. There are no more than three crew members on their boat, and fishing trips are done on a day charter, unlike the large trawlers that scour the oceans for several days at a time.

The products are fresh! 🧊

Poiscaille works directly with the courier Chronofresh to minimise the time between when the traps are fished and when they arrive at your home.

The maximum duration is 72 hours, ensuring that the goods are extremely fresh. Personally, I've never found anything so fresh in traditional retail, and you can definitely taste the difference.

You choose what you order

When you first sign up, you can already specify your allergies and intolerances.

Then, between 7 pm and 11 pm the evening before or the day before (in your area) of your delivery, you’ll receive an email inviting you to log into your Poiscaille account to choose the contents of your next order. This means you can decide whether you prefer fish, shellfish, or crustaceans, and specify which types of each you would like.

The French origins, fair pay for fishermen, and sustainable fishing are truly what motivated me to try Poiscaille, and I wasn't disappointed in that regard either.

A small thing to improve at Poiscaille?

I'm very pleased with Poiscaille, so I wanted to get my sister a subscription for Christmas. However, she doesn't have a collection point near her place, which makes things a bit more complicated.

The issue is the same for the Christmas shop, which doesn't allow orders to be placed online for collection at pickup points outside the greater Auckland area. It's a pity, as with the cost of home delivery ($24.90), I opted not to order for this occasion.
