What is the winter bohemian look?

Often seen as a summer trend, the bohemian style can actually be embraced in all seasons. Of course, when it's cold, you can't just get away with a light dress and sandals. During those times of the year when the weather is unpredictable, you can absolutely dress in a bohemian style by layering various pieces of clothing, occasionally letting some layers peek through, and mixing and matching different fabrics and prints.

Additionally, the boho trend embraces natural materials: cotton, linen, leather, as well as wool, for instance, which has excellent insulating properties, making it perfect for winter.

In summary, dressing bohemian in winter gives you even more opportunities to mix and match your clothing and wear a style that suits you.

Dare to try a monochrome look with different textures

Are you a fan of bohemian fashion? If so, prints and patterns are likely no mystery to you! However, in winter, you can also embrace this trend with a monochrome style by opting for garments with unique textures or exquisite embroidery.

Feel free to mix dresses with jackets you wouldn't typically pair them with by playing on contrasts. Materials like velvet or leather can often highlight softer and more luminous fabrics.

👉 Winter is also the season for cool colours like blue, grey, purple, and green. It's the perfect time to incorporate these shades into your bohemian wardrobe by experimenting with gradients!

The chunky knit cardigan or jumper: the must-have bohemian piece for winter

Worried about feeling cold in a simple long dress? Just know that jumpers and cardigans can add a cosy touch to your bohemian look. To stay on trend while keeping warm, I recommend choosing styles that are quite long and thick, with chunky knits.

It's often thought that baggy clothing tends to make us look larger and wider. But that's not the case! In fact, the opposite is true. With loose and long clothing, your silhouette will appear slimmer and taller.

Additionally, being comfortable in your clothes will give the impression of someone who is natural and spontaneous, and who is confident in themselves. 😉

Keep Your Legs Warm with Knee-High or Thigh-High Boots

Even if you choose thick ones, tights are not always enough to keep you warm when wearing a dress. To increase the amount of your body covered by clothing, you can also opt for boots, or even better, thigh-high boots. These high boots will cover a large portion of your legs while giving you a very feminine look. They will enhance both short and long dresses!

👉 If you're looking to elongate and refine your figure, I recommend opting for heeled boots. However, flat soles will also be perfectly suitable if you can't wear heels or if you need comfortable shoes for everyday use, such as for work.

Fringes: The Boho Chic Detail for Winter

As you probably already know, bohemian style is defined by a multitude of creative and original details. This can include naturally coloured embroidered patterns or even beads. These little touches of personalization are a way to make your clothing your own and to express who you are through what you wear.

Thus, it was the hippies in the 1970s who began to reinvent everyday clothing in this way, to express their individuality and beliefs. The "peace and love" symbol, for example, is one of their recurring motifs!

Taking inspiration from the customs of Native Americans and reviving them, hippies have also brought fringes back into fashion, which can now be seen in today's bohemian style. In fact, they have made an appearance on the catwalks this season, as showcased by Prada, Boss, and Christian Dior!

Now is the perfect time to incorporate fringing into your wardrobe to complement a dress or any other bohemian outfit, paired with your choice of accessories:

  • a fringe jacket,
  • a pair of fringed ankle boots,
  • a bag featuring this type of detail…

Choose accessories to express your bohemian spirit!

Wondering how to accessorise your bohemian dress? If you love this trend, it's likely that you also enjoy wearing plenty of accessories to personalise your look.

However, I often notice that in winter, it's less common to wear accessories. Sometimes, this can be for practical reasons: large rings, for instance, often get caught in clothing when you put them on... which happens quite a few times a day during winter. Just like with clothing, I recommend that you combine smaller accessories and focus on pieces that are suitable for the season, such as those I invite you to explore in the following sections.

The Hat

To look stylish, nothing beats choosing a lovely hat that enhances your winter boho dress! I recommend staying true to the boho style by opting for natural colours, from light camel brown to dark brown, and selecting your headwear to complement the rest of your outfit.

👉 To keep even warmer, pair your hat with a chunky oversized scarf. 😉

The Little Leather Bag

Super practical for everyday use, the little leather bag will be your best mate if you're wearing a long bohemian dress! In winter, it's often essential to carry a bunch of small items like lip balm, hand cream, your gloves, your phone, and so on.

Without pockets in your dress, a small bag will be perfect for keeping everything organised and easily accessible. As mentioned earlier, you might want to choose it in a boho style, featuring fringes, embroidery, or beads...
